Prayers that Bring Us Home

Psalm 58: Surely There Is a God Who Brings Justice

Episode Summary

What do we pray when those entrusted with Justice weigh out violence? Psalm 58 brings that question to God with fierce images of broken fangs, blunted arrows, and blood. We hear the anger without making its violent images a pattern for our actions. Praying with Jesus, who washed feet and whose own blood was shed under violent judgment, we ask God to stop harm, hold people accountable, and bring Justice on the earth. We can entrust our rage to God because the harmed will not be forgotten.
