The stories say God Rescued the ancestors. Yet now the people are scattered, shamed, and exposed to death. Psalm 44 gives the whole community words for the contradiction: “We have not forgotten You.” John, Ramona, and Paula pray this communal lament with Jesus, who remains with people suffering at human hands. The Psalm asks for Justice without placing Security in the sword. Paul carries its image of sheep for slaughter into Romans 8, where danger is real and God’s love still holds. No answer arrives before the Psalm ends. The people call to God from the ground: “Rise up to help us. Buy us Back for the sake of Your Persistent-Love.”
