What are we afraid would happen if the truth came out? Psalm 32 begins not with punishment, but with Flourishing. The burden is lifted. The violation is covered. Yet the Way toward that freedom passes through truth. When the one who prays remains silent, the hiding begins to affect the body. Bones waste away. Life dries up. Then comes the turning: “My violation I made known to You, and my twistedness I did not cover.” Confession here is not humiliation. It is release from hiding. And then the Psalm gives us a remarkable reversal. The person who was hiding from God discovers that God can become their hiding place. Persistent-Love surrounds the one who trusts. Praying Psalm 32 with Jesus, we encounter the Messiah who moves toward people carrying shame, offers belonging before performance, and leads us back onto the Way. In the Spirit of Adoption, we learn that we can be fully known and still move toward God.
