What happens when the thing you thought could not be shaken gets shaken? Psalm 30 remembers a life that once felt secure, until the mountain moved. Health, relationships, plans, prosperity, and stability are good gifts, but none of them can carry the weight of becoming our deepest Security. This prayer does not hurry grief toward a happy ending. Weeping settles in for the night. Mourning is allowed into the house. The one who prays cries, bargains, asks for grace, and finally says, “YAHWEH, be my helper.” Then, in its time, comes the reversal: “You turned for me my mourning into dancing.” The one who prays does not manufacture the transformation. It is received as gift. Praying Psalm 30 with Jesus, we discover a hope large enough for the cross, the tomb, and the morning of resurrection. When everything shakes, the Spirit of Adoption reminds us that our belonging does not. We are still children of God.
