What is the one thing beneath all the other things we ask of God? Psalm 27 begins with courage in the face of fear, but its deepest movement is the clarification of desire: “One thing I have asked from YAHWEH. This I seek.” The prayer gathers a scattered heart around the presence, beauty, and face of God. In this episode, we listen to Psalm 27 as a prayer of secure attachment, where confidence and vulnerability can live together. We can say, “Whom shall I fear?” and still cry, “Do not forsake me.” We can need Rescue, guidance, and protection while discovering that our deepest desire is not simply for our circumstances to change, but to live before the face of God. In Jesus, the One Thing becomes a way of life. Desire is clarified, identity is formed, and even in fear we learn to wait for YAHWEH and trust that we will see goodness in the land of the living.
